| The
course is designed for beginners or as a refresher course and assumes
little or no previous knowledge of the UNIX operating system. The course
includes lots of practical exercises and plenty of help is available on
the course.
Duration 2 days Course Prerequisites The course is designed for delegates with little or no knowledge of the UNIX operating system. Understanding another command line operating system would be an advantage but is not necessary. |
Use the basic UNIX command set to list copy and move files Copy and remove UNIX files interactively and recursively Use the find command to define and instigate a search Use commands with wildcards and re-direction to standard input and output Use manual pages to get information on UNIX command syntax Use the KDE graphical desktop to run utility programs Describe the UNIX file system structure, list the important UNIX directories and manage UNIX directories Use hard links and symbolic links on files and directories Use the UNIX vi text editor to create, change, replace, search, copy and paste text in files. Describe the UNIX file permissions and be able to set permissions on files and directories Add users and groups and manage user passwords Navigate the UNIX file system using relative and absolute paths Use, control and kill foreground and background Unix processes Schedule and control UNIX processes using background processes and cron State what UNIX device files are and work with UNIX devices Control UNIX print queues and submit print requests Describe the different shell types, use shell features and customise the shell interface. |
