Course Prerequisites |
||
The course is designed for delegates with little or no knowledge of the UNIX operating system. Delegates attending this course should have an understanding of MSDOS, or another command line operating system and have keyboard and mouse skills. A basic understanding of networking principles would also be an advantage. |

Course Objectives - On completing this course delegates will be able to:- |

| Use the basic Linux command set to list, copy ,move and delete files. Use the KDE desktop interface Describe the Linux file system structure and be able to navigate the file-system. Use the UNIX vi text editor to create and edit text and configuration files. Describe the Linux file permissions and be able to set permissions on files and directories. Schedule and control Linux processes using background processes and cron. Add users and groups and customise the user environment Understand the UNIX device file naming system and control UNIX devices Set-up and control the Linux printing system and convert to CUPS. Add disk drives and tape systems to a Linux system Check the file systems for errors. Control tape drives using the mt command Backup and restore files and directories Create boot diskettes and control the boot process Install the operating system and RPM application packages. Set-up TCP/IP networking and add and remove network cards. Set-up a networked file system (NFS) and file shares to Windows Systems (SAMBA) Administer servers using YAST and WEBMIN |
