On completing this course delegates will be able to:-

The course assumes little or no previous knowledge of the Linux operating system and builds to give delegates an in-depth view of this rich operating system

Course Prerequisites

The course is designed for delegates with little or no knowledge of the UNIX operating system. Delegates attending this course should have an understanding of a command line operating system and have keyboard and mouse skills. A basic understanding of networking principles would also be an advantage.

Use the basic Linux command set to list, copy ,move and delete files.
Describe the Linux file system structure and be able to navigate the file-system.
Use the UNIX vi text editor to create and edit text and configuration files.
Describe the Linux file permissions and be able to set permissions on files and directories.
Schedule and control Linux processes using background processes and cron.
Set-up and control the Linux printing system.
Add disk drives and tape systems to a Linux system and understand the device-special-file naming system used under Linux
Check the file systems for errors.
Control tape drives using the mt command
Backup and restore files and directories
Create boot diskettes and control the boot process
Install application packages.
Set-up TCP/IP networking and add and remove network cards.
Set-up a networked file system (NFS) and file shares to Windows Systems (SAMBA)
Install and set-up an Apache Web Server
